With over 25 years of experience, she has dedicated her career to helping individuals, especially active-duty military personnel and veterans, overcome a range of challenges. These include combat stress, operational stress, and trauma from military sexual experiences. She is an expert in treating conditions such as post-traumatic stress, traumatic brain injury, anxiety, depression, and difficulties adjusting to life changes.
Dr. Kim's academic journey began at the University of California, Berkeley, where she earned both a Bachelor of Science and a Bachelor of Arts. She then pursued advanced degrees in Psychology, obtaining both Master’s and Doctoral degrees from the California School of Psychology.
Embarking on her professional path, Dr. Kim joined the Navy Medical Service Corps as an active-duty officer, where she provided psychological services at notable military medical facilities such as the Naval Medical Center San Diego (NMCSD) and Portsmouth Naval Hospital.
Dr. Kim's commitment to supporting military and veteran communities extended to her role at a VA Medical Center before she returned to NMCSD. Her exceptional skills and dedication to patient care were recognized in 2010 when she was named a Master Clinician by the Naval Medical Center San Diego.
During her tenure at NMCSD, she played a pivotal role as a staff psychologist and was instrumental in the establishment of the Comprehensive Combat and Complex Care Clinic (C5). There, she was responsible for creating and leading the mental health component of a comprehensive care approach designed to support the recovery of wounded, ill, and injured service members.
Additionally, Dr. Kim has contributed significantly to mental health services in the NMCSD’s Traumatic Brain Injury and Prosthetics clinics. She notably developed an intensive outpatient treatment program specifically aimed at helping service members dealing with combat-related Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
