Byron Norris, MD, is a board-certified otolaryngologist at ENT of Athens, providing complete ear, nose, and throat care to people of all ages living in and around Athens, Georgia.

Dr. Norris was born and raised in Barnesville, Georgia. He began his professional pursuits at Mercer University in Macon, Georgia, earning his Bachelor of Science in biomedical engineering and graduating Cum Laude with honors. 

Following graduation, Dr. Norris remained at Mercer University where he completed medical school. There, he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society and obtained his Doctorate of Medicine.

Before entering private practice, Dr. Norris completed a surgical residency in otolaryngology at the University of Mississippi in Jackson, Mississippi.

Dr. Norris holds membership in several professional organizations, including the American Academy of Otolaryngology — Head and Neck Surgery, the American Academy of Otolaryngology Allergy, the American Association of Medical Colleges, and the American Medical Association. Dr. Mixson began his undergraduate education at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, earning his Bachelor of Science in biology and graduating Cum Laude with honors. He then enrolled at The Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, earning his Doctorate of Medicine. 

After graduation, Dr. Mixson remained in Augusta and completed an ENT residency at The Medical College of Georgia. In 2006, he completed training and moved to Athens to join the team at ENT of Athens.

Dr. Katz was raised in Alpharetta, Georgia. She began her career pursuits at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, earning her Bachelor of Science in biology with a minor in chemistry. Following graduation, Dr. Katz returned to Georgia and earned her Doctorate of Medicine from the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta. 

Before joining the team at ENT of Athens, Dr. Katz completed an internship and residency in otolaryngology head and neck surgery at Emory University in Atlanta. 

As an otolaryngologist, Dr. Katz has special interests in pediatric and adult diseases of the head and neck, including sleep disorders, salivary gland disease, voice and swallowing problems, and head and neck cancer.

In her free time, Dr. Katz enjoys spending time with her husband, Dr. David Katz, an Athens-based hand surgeon, her son, and her two daughters. She is an avid runner and values time with family and friends, and they enjoy an active involvement in their church.

Following graduation, he received a full academic scholarship to the University of Mississippi School of Medicine. Dr. Barnes excelled in the program, earned his medical degree, and graduated with distinction as a research scholar.

Following medical school, Dr. Barnes moved west and completed residency training at the University of California at Irvine. There, he developed an interest in facial plastic surgery and gained invaluable experience in all facets of facial cosmetic and reconstructive surgery. 

After the end of his five-year residency, Dr. Barnes relocated to San Francisco and completed additional training in facial plastic and reconstructive surgery. He earned the title of accredited fellow, specializing in nasal surgery and facial aging. 

Dr. Barnes has special interests in non-surgical cosmetic procedures, cosmetic surgery, nasal surgery, and reconstruction of the head and neck. He loves helping his patients achieve their cosmetic goals and improved health by developing individualized treatment plans.

Outside of work, Dr. Barnes is active in the Athens community. He loves spending time with his wife, Kathleen, and son in addition to traveling, photography, and spending time outdoors.
