Kristopher Downing, MD, is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon at Ortho 1 Medical Group in San Diego, and La Jolla, California. Dr. Downing specializes in orthopedic and hand surgery. He holds board certifications from the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) as a fellow and the American Society for Surgery of the Hand (ASSH).

Dr. Downing earned his bachelor’s degree in 2001 at the University of California, Riverside (UCR), completing a seven-year biomedical sciences program that included enrollment at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) during his fourth year. In 2004, he received his medical degree from UCLA.

After graduation, Dr. Downing completed his surgical internship at the Harbor-UCLA Medical Center in Torrance, California, before relocating to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, for his surgical residency. He received extensive training at the University of Pennsylvania (UPenn) Health System hospitals, the only freestanding orthopedic surgery department in the US.

Dr. Downing later received additional training at the University of Southern California (USC) in Los Angeles, completing a hand surgery fellowship. Today, he uses his expertise to perform surgery to correct trigger finger, carpal tunnel syndrome, and other painful hand conditions.

He is an expert in wrist arthroscopy, trigger finger release, and cubital tunnel release. Anisa M. Yalom, MD, is a meticulous fellowship-trained hand surgeon who also specializes in microvascular surgery. As a member of the OasisMD team, she works in the offices in Encinitas, San Diego, and Temecula, California. 

She frequently performs reconstructive surgeries to restore the structure or improve patients’ fine motor skills after nerve, tendon and ligament injuries, fractures, joint conditions like arthritis, birth defects, or traumatic injuries to their hands, wrist, and forearms. She also performs vascularized lymph node transfer for the treatment of lymphedema and limb salvage surgeries, including vascularized bone grafts and free tissue transfer.

Dr. Yalom was born and raised in San Diego, California. She began her education at Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in anthropology and studio art in 2000. She then attended Columbia University in New York City, where she received the certificate for postbaccalaureate premedical studies.

She is a proud graduate of David Geffen School of Medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA)/Charles R. Drew University, where she earned her medical degree in 2008. In medical school, she was recognized with the Dean’s Award for an Outstanding Thesis and the Award for Excellence in Surgery. 

Dr. Yalom completed her internship in general surgery at Harbor-UCLA in Torrance, California, where she was awarded the Intern of the Year award in 2009. She then went on to complete the rigorous general surgery residency at Harbor-UCLA in Torrance, California, in 2014.

Following her general surgery residency, she was accepted into the hand surgery fellowship program at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia where she was trained in the full range of hand surgery and microsurgical techniques for composite free tissue transfer and limb salvage under the guidance of Dr. L. Scott Levin.

After completing her hand surgery fellowship Dr. Yalom worked in Fresno, California, at a busy hand surgery practice serving the entire Central Valley of California before joining the team at OasisMD in San Diego, California.

Throughout her career, Dr. Yalom has earned numerous awards and honors for her outstanding work. In 2014, she won the Excellence in Teaching with Humanism Award at UCLA. Currently, she is a candidate member of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand as well as the American Association for Surgery of the Hand. With his longstanding commitment to academic excellence, Mark E. Elzik, MD, brings that same focus to South Orange County Orthopaedics, Inc, in Mission Viejo, California. A skilled, board-certified orthopaedic surgeon, Dr. Elzik specializes in surgery of the elbow, wrist, hand and microvascular system.

Dr. Elzik spent grew up in Orange County before moving to North Carolina to attend Duke University. He went to medical school at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, where he was inducted into Alpha Omega Alpha, a medical honor society limited to the top 1% of medical students.

Dr. Elzik returned to California to complete his residency in orthopaedic surgery through the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). He refined his surgical skills during a fellowship at the Philadelphia Hand Center, learning from world renowned hand surgeon Dr. A. Lee Osterman. Dr. Elzik was elected to the Orange County Medical Association (OCMA) 2018 Physician of Excellence List.

As an accomplished surgeon, Dr. Elzik now shares his knowledge with others by lecturing at national professional events and publishing medical articles. He has a broad base of skills, and assists patients with surgical solutions to a wide range of orthopaedic issues.
