I welcome you to our website, and hopefully, at some point, to our office located in Encino, California. The purpose of this website is to give potential patients some basic information about my office and myself, David Paikal, MD. My practice specializes in comprehensive ophthalmology, where I favor conservative approaches, striving to be true to the bioethical tenet of “first do no harm.”

My staff and I will do everything possible to take the best care of you. The reason we can do so is because we love what we do: helping people to see better. Sometimes, that means admitting that we don’t have all the answers and referring you elsewhere. No one physician knows it all, and my staff and I are fortunate to have strong relationships with various sub-specialists, including academicians at universities, should the need arise.

Educational Background

Dr. Lin is a board-certified ophthalmologist, located in Fountain Valley, California, with advanced training in corneal disorders and LASIK surgery. Her clinical interests include corneal transplantation, cataract surgery, and management of LASIK complication. A member of the prestigious Corneal Society, Dr. Lin is one of a few corneal surgeons who performs small incision, disease-specific corneal transplants in the United States. In addition to LASIK eye surgery, Dr. Lin is skilled in ICL (implantable contact lens) procedures. Dr. Lin received her medical degree with honors from Northwestern University. She completed her internship at MacNeal Hospital, an affiliate of the University of Chicago. Dr. Lin then joined the faculty at the University of Colorado, instructing and proctoring resident physicians. Dr. Lin is adamant about staying ahead of the curve by adding cutting-edge procedures to her surgical repertoire. As a member of the renowned Corneal Society, Dr. Lin is passionate about bringing the newest corneal transplant techniques into the private practice setting. She is one of a few ophthalmic surgeons who performs Descemet Stripping Endothelial Keratoplasty (DSEK) – a sutureless, small incision corneal transplant that treats Fuch’s dystrophy, as well as Deep Anterior Lamellar Keratoplasty (DALK) – a partial thickness corneal transplant that treats keratoconus and corneal scars. Outside of work, Dr. Lin enjoys classical music, cooking, and loves the outdoors. Even with her demanding schedule, she still makes time to travel abroad, go hiking, camping, skiing, and scuba diving.

Nicole M. Fuerst, MD is a board-certified ophthalmologist at Fuerst Eye Center, which has two locations in Glendale, California and West Covina, California. Dr. Fuerst takes a patient-centered approach to care, treating each patient like a member of the family. She specializes in performing cornea, cataract, and refractive surgery. 

Dr. Fuerst completed medical school at the prestigious Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. She then completed her ophthalmology residency at the Scheie Eye Institute at the University of Pennsylvania, where she received multiple teaching awards. She continued her training at the renowned Duke Eye Center in Durham, North Carolina. Scott W. Beeve is a board-certified ophthalmologist practicing at Beeve Vision Care Center in Glendale, California. At Orange County Cataract and Glaucoma, cataract and glaucoma surgeon Anand Bhatt, MD, provides comprehensive vision care to adults living in Orange County, California.

Dr. Anand Bhatt is a leading expert in Orange County in the fields of cataract and glaucoma surgery. Prior to his decision to enter private practice, Dr. Bhatt was full-time ophthalmology faculty at the UC Irvine Gavin Herbert Eye Institute and the Veteran’s Hospital in Long Beach, CA. While at UC Irvine, Dr. Bhatt was involved in the cataract and glaucoma surgery training of more than 30 fellow ophthalmologists, including 7 other glaucoma specialists, many of whom practice locally and was recognized by his trainees for his excellence in surgical education with a teaching award.

During his career, Dr. Bhatt has been awarded by Southern California Super Doctors and has been selected as one of the Orange County Physicians of Excellence by Orange Coast Magazine for 4 consecutive years. Dr. Bhatt has also published many peer-reviewed scientific papers in the field of cataract and glaucoma surgery and served as a member of the American Glaucoma Society’s Patient Care Committee.

Dr. Bhatt graduated as valedictorian of his International Baccalaureate High School in Palm Harbor, FL, and was then admitted into a direct 6-year BS/MD program at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. During his time in medical school, he discovered his passion to save and restore vision, so he pursued a residency in Ophthalmology at the University of Texas Southwestern in Dallas, TX. While in residency he was amongst the first surgeons in the U.S. to use astigmatic and multifocal lenses for vision correction with cataract surgery.

Dr. Bhatt subsequently completed a fellowship in the medical and surgical management of glaucoma at UC Irvine. After his fellowship training, he was recruited to remain on faculty at UC Irvine where he helped to preserve and restore vision in some of the most difficult surgical cataract and glaucoma cases and gained extensive experience in all varieties of minimally invasive glaucoma surgery.

Dr. Shelly Bagai Lapsi, MD, is a board-certified ophthalmologist and Medical Director for Omni Eye Care, with convenient locations in Covina and El Monte, California. With her extensive training, Dr. Lapsi is committed to providing the highest quality of ophthalmic care to her patients, utilizing the most recent medical and surgical advances. Shivani Gupta, MD, MPH, is an oculoplastic surgeon with over 10 years of experience in the field. She has a private practice in Beverly Hills, California.
