After receiving his undergraduate degree, Dr. Retkinski attended the State University of New York School of Optometry in New York City, where he earned his doctorate in optometry in 1982. Dr. Yashar completed a fellowship in neuro-ophthalmology, also at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital, and simultaneously received additional training in oculoplastics. She is presently an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at NYU School of Medicine and teaches at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary.
Neuro-ophthalmology has a diagnostic and medical focus, concentrating on diseases like Multiple Sclerosis, myasthenia gravis, double vision, decreased vision, brain tumors, and unexplained visual loss. Many patients are co-managed by their neurologist, rheumatologist, or internist.
