Orthopedic surgeon Austin Yeargan III, MD, specializes in regenerative and sports medicine at his practice, Carolina Joint and Arthritis, in Wilmington, North Carolina. As a pioneer in the field of regenerative medicine, his clinic was the original birthplace of orthopedic cell signaling treatments.
Dr. Yeargan has successfully used autologous bone marrow aspirate concentrate (ABMAC) since 2009 and was the first to use cellular and molecular technology for rotator cuff tears. He continues to track his patient’s results and researches cellular technology, resulting in the development of innovative regenerative medicine techniques proven to improve results.
Dr. Yeargan received a Bachelor of Arts in chemistry at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He graduated with honors from the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina.
After receiving his Doctor of Medicine, he completed a residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of Hawaii John A. Burns School of Medicine in Honolulu, Hawaii. During his residency, he was active in clinical research, receiving a research fellowship studying collagen deformation during electrothermal capsulorrhaphy for anterior shoulder instability.
Dr. Yeargan continued to pursue his medical education, completing a Steadman Hawkins sports medicine fellowship at the world-renowned Steadman Clinic and Steadman Philippon Research Institute in Colorado. While at the Steadman Clinic, he focused on adult shoulder, elbow, hand, and knee construction.
He also finished a fellowship in regenerative medicine with Dan Eglinton, MD, at the Asheville Biologics and Orthopedics Clinic in Asheville, North Carolina. During this fellowship, he gained expertise in the techniques and applications of molecular and cellular therapeutics in orthopedic surgery.
Dr. Yeargan leads an active lifestyle when he’s not helping patients or learning new signaling pathways. He enjoys sailing, surfing, and other water sports and works with USA Boxing. He also devotes time to playing musical instruments.
“Very professional and personable, Dr. Yeargan and his support team knew the procedures and protocols and performed them flawlessly, including sterile practices, local anesthetic injections , stem cell harvest and processing procedures, among others.
Every question was answered and I even got a selfie. I was awake the entire time so I could watch. The pain level was hardly noticeable except for a few moments where it was obvious and the anesthetic could not reach into the bone. I got both knees done and including preliminary paperwork and getting my knee braces adjusted prior to the stem cell procedure, and the final personalized release protocols for me to follow at home, the entire experience was just under 4 hours. I was able to walk, but they put me in a wheelchair anyway.
Many thanks. My knees feel better already even thoughg it is less than 12 hours since the beginning of the stem cell experience.
I highly recommend this team.
