She began and ended her formal education at historically black colleges and universities (HBCU’s).In 2010, she graduated with a 4.0 GPA from Sojourner Douglass College with a licensed practical nursing certification. Sojourner Douglass College was the only HBCU in Maryland that offered the LPN-BSN bridge program.In 2012, she completed the bachelor program graduating Cum Laude, earning a bachelor of science in nursing degree. In 2017, she entered the accelerated nurse practitioner program at Coppin State University. Our Practitioner: Dr. Rosemarie Filart, MD, MPH is an Integrative Rehabilitation and Functional Medicine Specialist who has been a physician for over 20 years. Dr. Filart earned her Medical Degree and Masters in Public Health through a dual degree program at George Washington School of Medicine & Public Health. Following medical school, she received training in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R) at Baylor College of Medicine, and in Primary Care Medicine at Yale School of Medicine. She has also completed specialty Fellowships from the Kessler Institute of Rehabilitation and the Academy of Integrative Health and Medicine.
Dr. Filart is board-certified in PM&R, Integrative Medicine, Brain Injury Medicine, and Spinal Cord Medicine, as well as, a Certified Functional Medicine Practitioner. She is affiliated with several medical systems including Medstar National Rehab Hospital, University of Maryland, and St. Mary’s Rehabilitation Hospital. After graduating from medical school at Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington, D.C., Dr. Underwood completed his residency training at Virginia Commonwealth University’s Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) in Richmond, Virginia. The medical field of PM&R specializes in maximizing the performance of patients in both elite and everyday activities.
After residency training, Dr. Underwood completed his sports medicine fellowship at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas. He has served as a team physician for high schools and universities, including the NCAA Division 1 TCU Horned Frogs and Longwood University Lancers.

Knell Villarta is a physician assistant that recently joined the team at the International Spine, Pain & Performance Center. He was born and raised in the Philippines prior to moving to Florida where he finished middle school and high school. He received his Bachelor of Science in Food & Nutrition Science at Florida State University. He then worked for two years as a medical assistant in interventional pain medicine where he first learned about this field.
Knell attended Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania and graduated with a Master of Health Science in 2023. He is excited to help the population of Washington D.C with their pain management and to continually grow as a healthcare provider in this region.
In his spare time, he likes to play basketball, watch college football (Go Seminoles!) and soccer, and explore new areas.
Dr. Thakral is a fellowship-trained Interventional Pain Medicine physician who is board certified in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation and Pain Medicine. He is joining the team at the International Spine, Pain & Performance Center, and will be treating patients in both our Washington DC and Arlington Virginia locations.
Dr. Thakral was born and raised locally in northern Virginia. He earned his medical degree from Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), where he then completed a General Surgery internship before moving to New Jersey for his Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R) residency at Rutgers RWJMS - Hackensack Meridian JFK Johnson Rehabilitation Institute. During his final year of residency, Dr. Thakral was elected Academic Chief Resident. He completed an additional one year of training in an ACGME-accredited Pain Medicine fellowship at JFK Johnson Rehabilitation Institute.
Dr. Thakral specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of spine and musculoskeletal injuries. He is passionate about using a comprehensive approach in treating his patients' pain. In addition to utilizing conservative measures such as personalized exercise and therapy programs, Dr. Thakral performs a variety of fluoroscopic and ultrasound-guided procedures, including to the back, neck, joints, and soft tissues. He takes pride in his ability to listen and connect with patients, helping create individualized treatment plans to improve his patients' functional abilities and to get back to the activities they love.

Originally from Fairfax, Virginia, Dr. Dinh received her medical degree at George Washington University School of Medicine in Washington, D.C. She completed her residency in anesthesiology and fellowship in interventional pain at Virginia Commonwealth University Health in Richmond, Virginia.
Dr. Dinh explored her passion for medicine and service through research at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, and other volunteer opportunities in the community.
