Burton Elrod, MD, is an orthopedic surgeon and sports medicine specialist at Elite Sports Medicine + Orthopedics, serving patients at the Midtown and Green Hills locations in Nashville, as well as our clinics in Franklin and Brentwood, TN. A native of Centerville, Tennessee, Dr. Elrod attended Lipscomb University for his undergraduate degree and received his medical degree from the University of Tennessee. After completing his orthopedic residency at the University of Tennessee,
Dr. Elrod continued his post-graduate studies in sports medicine at the Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Foundation. Certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, Dr. Elrod holds memberships in numerous professional societies, including the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, Arthroscopy Association of North America, and International Society of Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine.
Dr. Elrod’s specialties include sports-related injuries and arthroscopic surgery of the knee, shoulder, and elbow. Dr. Elrod has been an NFL physician for 19 years and is a team physician for Lipscomb University and Lipscomb Academy. He has authored many scientific articles and book chapters. In addition, he has served as a master clinical instructor for the Arthroscopy Association of North America.
Dr. Elrod has been recognized as a Castle Connolly Top Doctor from 2014-2020. During his spare time, Dr. Elrod enjoys running, racquetball, driving race cars, snow skiing, scuba diving, diving with sharks, listening to music, and spending time with his family.

Walked into my appointment thinking surgery was my only option for Grade IV cartilage damage in my knee, and walked out with new hope and a rehab plan that didn’t involve surgery or any extensive recovery! Super excited to continue working with Dr. Elrod, I can tell he really knows what he’s doing and I’m confident I’m in good hands.

Very thorough and thoughtful. My surgery didn't work the way, I wanted, but it was the least evasive and hopefully will make the next one easier. Really couldn't ask for a better surgeon than Dr Burton Elrod. Would recommend him highly.
