About Dr. Jay Rivas, MD

Jay Rivas, DNP, PMHNP-BC, is a compassionate and dedicated board-certified psychiatric nurse practitioner at Bellevue Psychiatry, which has locations in Kennewick, Vancouver, Bellevue, and Kirkland, Washington. Dr. Rivas completed his training and doctoral studies at The University of Texas Health Science Center, where he was a distinguished honors graduate. With a deep commitment to his patient’s well-being, he has gained extensive experience through his clinical work at world-renowned institutions such as Dunn Behavioral Science Institute, where he trained in providing psychiatric care for pediatric and adolescent patients. His doctoral research focused on post-stroke depression and anxiety, where he developed innovative approaches to support individuals facing these challenges.

Dr. Rivas firmly believes that proper mental health requires a holistic approach to achieving overall well-being. This approach combines medications, psychotherapy, sleep hygiene, nutrition, exercise, social connections, and mindfulness techniques. “Integrating these evidence-based interventions helps patients find happiness and resilience while focusing on addressing root causes.”

Dr. Rivas is dedicated to helping patients unlock their potential and thrive in all aspects of life. He specializes in treating various conditions, including ADHD, anxiety, bipolar disorder, depression, eating disorders, sleep issues, sexual dysfunction, substance abuse, adolescent psychosis, borderline personality disorder, and weight management.

On his days off, Dr. Rivas enjoys spending time with his family, having dinner with his grandfather, and hiking trails with his Mini Schnauzer, Scotty. His greatest passion is providing pro bono mental health services for underserved adolescent children.
