Sommer is a licensed professional counselor in South Carolina. She has 18 years of varied experience working with children, teens, and adults in multiple contexts including residential treatment centers, foster care and therapeutic care services, college counseling centers, and in Africa. Sommer graduated from the University of South Carolina with a PhD in Counselor Education. Her research focused on trauma treatment and training; cross-cultural counseling, cultural immersion, and global service learning; and early childhood development factors. These research interests are informed by her clinical experiences in the work she has done related to sexual trauma and offense, and cross-cultural counseling. As a counselor, educator, and supervisor, her overall goal is to join alongside others in a safe space to promote healing, success, and overall wellness.
