Born and raised in Moca, Puerto Rico, Dr. Cordero attended college at The University of Puerto Rico, graduating Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Biology and Science. He continued his medical studies at Universidad Central del Caribe School of Medicine in Bayamon, Puerto Rico where he received a Doctorate in Medicine.
Dr. Cordero participated in research studies at Rutgers University in New Jersey and at Columbia University’s New York State Psychiatric Institute. He completed his Residency in Psychiatry at University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital and is a Board-Certified Diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
Dr. Cordero- Torres has significant acute inpatient and office experience – specializing in treating adults with co-occurring disorders, and addiction medicine. He is Suboxone certified for opiate addiction and is passionate about helping patients live their life to the fullest.

As a physician, I believe in honesty with my patients, so that they can make an informed decision. Dr. Jimmy Lafaille, DNP, graduated from the prestigious University of Miami (UM) with a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree and a post graduate certificate as a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner (PMHNP). She also achieved a post master’s certificate as a family nurse practitioner (FNP) at Barry University and obtained a master’s degree in nursing science from Florida Atlantic University (FAU). She completed her undergraduate studies in New York. She received accolades while she was a doctoral student at the University of Miami (UM) when she was one of the few chosen for the Vitas Fellow Scholarship Award as well as the Aryn Rothfield Memorial Scholarship Award. In 2017, she was inducted in the Sigma Theta Tau by the University of Miami International Honors Society Chapter. She has worked in clinical practice for over 20 years. She has also worked as a contributing faculty member for various graduate programs. She has dual board certification as an FNP and PMHNP.

I attended UMDNJ, New Jersey Medical School where I received my medical degree, completed residency training in General Psychiatry, and a fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. After graduating, I decided to stay within the same organization working as one of the head psychiatrists for a Partial Hospitalization Program. Aside from treating adults and adolescents I also have experience working with young children who benefited from treatment within a Therapeutic Learning Center.
As I continued to expand my horizons within the field of Psychiatry, my family and I decided to relocate to the Sunshine state. Since my relocation, I have been working within the private sector with children, adolescents, and adult patients.
