As a CBT therapist, Dr. Tannenbaum works actively and collaboratively with her clients, helping them to build skills toward significant life changes. Whether this means reducing pervasive worry, rumination, or obsessions; overcoming fears by getting on an airplane or driving on the interstate for the first time in years, taking on a job interview or presentation, sitting in a classroom without the desire to flee; not needing the reassurance of 1-10 people for a decision, not repeatedly checking, or in any way living life more authentically and engaged, the aim of therapy is to meet defined goals. Common CBT techniques include: Thought, mood, and behavior “monitoring”, and learning how these processes interact more or less healthily; “thought restructuring” or challenging to increase awareness to thinking patterns and how to think more balanced, flexibly, and or tolerate uncertainty; and behavioral techniques to help clients confront versus avoid situations (Anxiety Disorders), or to engage and activate versus disengage (Mood Disorders). As a CBT therapist, Dr. Tannenbaum specializes in Exposure Therapy, which means helping clients confront fears by going TO these situations (“in vivo”) with her clients (i.e., be it elevators, restaurants, malls, driving, etc.), helping them in a gradual, therapeutic, supportive way. This includes using Exposure Response Prevention for persons with OCD.
