WHAT LED YOU TO THE FIELD OF INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGY?
The field of radiology and interventional radiology fascinated me during my internal medicine training because it allowed me to help patients in ways I was not previously able to. Radiology & imaging has a central and vital role in managing every single patient. Being in this role has helped me realize my potential to offer so much more to my patients and the community.
WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT YOUR JOB?
In this era, radiologists have become clinicians who are directly accessible to patients and their families to discuss imaging and treatment options. Additionally, we are a part of a rapidly evolving and advancing field of medicine and use some of the most amazing designs of biomedical engineering to save and transform lives.
I love that I'm able to share this with my patients. To be able to cure certain cancers without chemotherapy or surgery, to see a patient walk out after a minimally invasive surgery, which would otherwise have required a prolonged hospital stay, are some of the most gratifying parts of my job.
WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST WHEN YOU ARE NOT WORKING?
When not working, I enjoy spending all of my time with my beautiful family, be it sitting at home & watching TV, cooking, or being outside biking, trekking, etc. I engage in DIY home improvement projects to busy and learn new creative ways to personalize our home. I also share a passion for traveling the world with my wife and always look forward to weekend getaways with our kids.

WHAT LED YOU TO THE FIELD OF INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGY?
Interventional radiologists use image guidance to perform procedures that would otherwise be too risky, complex, or invasive for patients. The first is always evolving with new technologies and new ideas. We find ways to treat many disease that used to require surgery with methods that have similar efficacy and are much better tolerated.
WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT YOUR JOB?
I get to see the results my patients have, often without the long recovery.
WHAT DO YOU DO WHEN YOU’RE NOT WORKING?
Cycling our great trails, sailing on our beautiful lakes, working on old motorcycles, rock climbing, skiing, walking my dog, and traveling.

WHAT LED YOU TO THE FIELD OF INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGY?
One of my mentors I spent time with doing research after medical school. He showed me the new, great, minimally invasive procedures available to us to help patients and his ideas of improving on them.
WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT YOUR JOB?
Dr. Gomes most enjoys how the team at Minneapolis Vein Center in Plymouth, MD is able to help patients look and feel better. “It truly makes a difference in our patients’ lives.” The team at Minneapolis Vein Center can treat more than just varicose veins. The center offers several other interventional radiology services including treatment of leg ulcers and tendon pain, as well as epidural steroid injections for back pain.
WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO DO WHEN YOU’RE NOT WORKING?
“I like spending time with my family, especially my three grandchildren.” When not chasing after her grandchildren, Dr. Gomes stays active with outdoor activities including (her favorite) paddle boarding.
