A board-certified surgeon and registered vascular technologist, Dr. Paxton performed his vascular surgery fellowship at the Scripps Clinic and Research Foundation in La Jolla, California. He obtained his M.D. at the George Washington University School of Medicine and completed his surgical residency at the University of California at San Diego. Dr. Paxton received the Chairman’s Prize for Outstanding Achievement as a resident.
Dr. Paxton is past Chairman of the Department of Surgery and Chief of the Division of Vascular Surgery at Eden Medical Center. Dr. Paxton is past president of the Northern California Vascular Society, the East Bay Surgical Society, the Alameda-Contra Costa County Medical Association and the San Francisco Surgical Society. He is a member of the Western Vascular Society, the Pacific Coast Surgical Society and the Society for Vascular Surgery.
Abid C. Mogannam MD, MBA, RPVI is a Vascular Surgeon at the Vascular Surgery Medical Group. Dr. Mogannam cares for patients across the spectrum of vascular disease and performs open and minimally invasive endovascular procedures to treat both arterial and venous disorders. Dr. Mogannam practices at offices located in San Leandro and San Ramon.
Dr. Mogannam completed his undergraduate studies at Santa Clara University with honors. While he completed a Combined Sciences major and Spanish minor, he performed basic science research on cellular membranes and published his work in the Journal of Chemical Education. He went on to complete his medical degree at the University of California, Irvine School of Medicine. Dr. Mogannam holds a Masters Degree in Business Administration from The Paul Merage School of Business at UC Irvine. This was completed concurrently with his medical degree and focused on healthcare policy and economics.
Dr. Mogannam matriculated to the General Surgery Residency at Loma Linda University Medical Center in Loma Linda California. During this time period, Dr. Mogannam performed clinical research and published institutional retrospective reviews of anterior retroperitoneal spine exposure and major vascular reconstruction in the setting of oncologic resection in JAMA Surgery and Annals of Vascular Surgery. After completing General Surgery Residency, Dr. Mogannam completed fellowship training at the University of California, San Diego in Vascular and Endovascular Surgery. During this time period, Dr. Mogannam trained to perform the most up to date endovascular techniques. He published a multi institutional retrospective review of treatment of endoleaks in the Journal of Vascular Surgery and presented his work at regional and national meetings.
Dr. Mogannam maintains active memberships in the Society for Vascular Surgery, American College of Surgeons, and the Alameda-Contra Costa Medical Association. Dr. Mogannam believes in creating individualized treatment plans that will provide the best possible outcome for his patients.

Dr. Melissa Loja, MD, MAS, FACS, FSVS, RPVI, completed medical school at the University of California at Davis. She went on to be among the first in the nation to complete a specialized integrated vascular surgery residency program at the University of California at Davis. Dr. Loja was selected for the highly competitive NIH funded T32 research grant, which led to widely cited publications. She attained a Master's degree in Clinical and Translational research from these efforts. In addition, she holds a Bachelor's degree in Biologic Sciences, also obtained at the University of California at Davis. Dr. Loja specializes in vascular and endovascular surgery, including carotid artery disease, aneurysm repair, dialysis access, treatment of mesenteric and renal artery disease and lower extremity revascularization. Among her clinical interests, limb salvage and peripheral arterial disease with a multidisciplinary focus is a particular passion of hers. She is expertly trained and highly skilled in endovascular as well as surgical management of peripheral arterial disease.
