Dr. Kristen Keener, AuD is an expert Audiologist who specializes in the treatment of tinnitus and other sound sensitivity disorders at the IlluminEar Tinnitus & Audiology Center in Austin, Texas. Trusted and valued by all of her patients, Dr. Keener has over eighteen years of experience treating patients with such serious sound sensitivities as hyperacusis and misophonia across Texas, including Austin.
Dr. Keener’s Education and Experience
Dr. Keener earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Biology from Indiana University in 1994. Two years later, she received her Master’s Degree in Audiology from Purdue University and went on to gain her Doctorate in Audiology from A.T. Still University in 2007. Dr. Keener’s training focused on a wide field of expertise, including such categories as assessing hearing loss, conserving hearing ability and providing treatment for a number of hearing disorders.
As a member of a number of professional Audiological Associations, Dr. Keener has become a valued member of her professional community over her nearly two-decade long career. Just a few of her industry associations include being a member of the Texas Academy of Audiology, the Academy of Doctors of Audiology and the American Academy of Audiology, among others. Dr. Keener is also privileged to be one of the few Audiologists in the entire country to be trained in Tinnitus Retraining Therapy. This relatively new method of treating Tinnitus has shown a success rate of more than 80%, and Dr. Keener received her training directly from the neuroscientist who developed the therapy.
Her Commitment to Community Involvement
In addition to her professional credentials, Dr. Keener is also committed to educating patients and fellow healthcare providers about the importance of hearing and the factors that can contribute to hearing loss. To better serve her community of Austin, Texas, Dr. Keener founded the IlluminEar Tinnitus & Audiology Center in 2014. IlluminEar is the only diagnostic and rehabilitative Audiology practice in Austin that specializes in such debilitating conditions as tinnitus, as well as sound sensitivity disorders.
