Scott Brotherton, MD, at Orthopedic Specialists in Palm Harbor, Florida, is an accomplished orthopedic surgeon with a military background. After graduating high school, he attended the University of Alabama at Birmingham for his undergraduate training, then earned his medical degree from Florida State University College of Medicine in Tallahassee.
Dr. Brotherton completed his surgical internship at Orlando Regional Medical Center and moved to upstate New York for his orthopedic residency at Albany Medical Center, where he focused heavily on orthopedic trauma and arthroplasty.
After completing his residency, Dr. Brotherton started his service in the United States Air Force. For his first assignment at Osan Air Base in South Korea, he provided orthopedic care to over 10,000 active duty soldiers and their dependents. During his service in the Air Force, he attained the rank of major and was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal for his excellent service overseas. Dr. Brotherton then returned to his native Florida and completed his military service at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida’s panhandle.
In his pursuit of higher learning, Dr. Brotherton completed a sports medicine fellowship at the Andrews Institute for Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine in Gulf Breeze, Florida. There he further honed his surgical skill and knowledge studying with well-known orthopedic surgeon, Dr. James Andrews while treating professional and community athletes.
During his training, Dr. Brotherton has treated athletes on the Pensacola Blue Wahoos minor league baseball team, on colleges and university teams such as Auburn University, Tuskegee University, and the University of West Florida, and also on many local high school teams.
He believes in forward thinking and applies his training and skills gained during his time in the military and fellowship training to help his patients of all ages and at all levels of competition at Orthopedic Specialists.
Dr. Taylor was born in New England, but his family relocated to the Florida panhandle near the end of his childhood. He later attended the University of South Alabama in Mobile, Alabama, after being awarded a highly competitive scholarship granting early acceptance into medical school. He graduated cum laude and stayed at the University of South Alabama to complete his residency in orthopedic surgery. In furthering his education, he completed a one-year residency in complex foot and ankle surgery at the Campbell Clinic in Memphis, Tennessee.
Dr. Taylor learned new techniques and also shared his training with others by giving lectures and writing research papers, book chapters, and medical articles focusing on lower extremity care and treatment.
During residency, he studied general orthopedics focusing on general trauma including fractures of the hips, knees, ankles, shoulders, elbows, and wrists. He also studied arthroscopic surgery, sports medicine, and how to care for common orthopedic problems in the spine, pelvis, and upper and lower extremities.
While at Campbell Clinic, Dr. Taylor honed his skills further in sports medicine, joint replacement, deformity correction, and ligament reconstruction for lower extremities. He also trained in arthroscopic surgery, cartilage regenerative procedures, minimally invasive surgery, and fracture care.
With his knowledge in both surgical and nonsurgical treatments, Dr. Taylor provides patients with many alternatives to returning to their normal lives.
Dr. Taylor joined Orthopedic Specialists in Palm Harbor in 2017 to continue delivering outstanding orthopedic care to all patients. He enjoys spending time with his family, playing the guitar, and outdoor water sports and recreation.
Brian Maiocco, MD, is an orthopedic surgeon at Orthopedic Specialists in Palm Harbor, Florida. He utilizes both surgical and non-surgical treatment to help his patients return to an active lifestyle. When surgery is necessary, he uses the latest techniques in arthroscopic and reconstructive surgery of the shoulder, elbow, knee, and ankle, including cartilage transplantation and ligament reconstruction.

While there, he was a clinical instructor to medical students and orthopedic residents at the Georgetown Medical School.
He is board-certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and also has a board-certification in Orthopedic Sports Medicine.
Dr. Maiocco has been a consultant to Olympic, professional, and collegiate athletes, including the U.S. Olympic Track team, the U.S. Olympic Gymnastics team, Washington Redskins, Baltimore Orioles, and D.C. United. He has treated athletes from the New York Yankees, Toronto Blue Jays, and athletes in other professional sports. He has served as the team physician for several area high schools, as well.
