During my second visit on 8/15/19 Dr. Budoff reviewed my CT scan which indicated 35% bone loss in the PIP joint & osteoarthritis. He suggested two surgical options for the correction of traumatic Swan neck deformity - #1. Joint Show morereplacement #2. Fusion. He then injected steroids in the IP and PIP joints to reduce pain & swelling. While injecting steroids he discovered my little right finger had significant scar tissue in the PIP joint then explained surgical complications caused by scar tissue. Upon my third visit on 9/12/19 - my PIP joint had collapsed, the Swan neck deformity went from 29% to 32% with zero movement, thus he could no longer perform the joint replacement. Dr. Budoff gave me a compassionate explanation why only a fusion is possible. He is understanding, supportive and kind knowing I fractured my finger in multiple places on 2/11/19. He is sympathetic and wants to perform the best surgical repair. Dr. Budoff knows the pain I’ve endured with pinning stabilization surgery, difficult pin removal & closed contracture release by another Hand Surgeon 7 months ago. Though he can’t return movement to my finger I understand why.
Went here through workers comp and the lack of compassion and the inability to listen is crazy. Made concern to doctor that my injury still prohibits me from performing my full job functions and would put me at risk if I was to reShow moreturn with no restrictions. Doctor suggested looking for another job in my employer or just outright stop working as he was firm in not having me on any sort of restrictions. I still have pain but unfortunately no one listens. Doctor has never prescribed any sort of medication unsure why. Usually have to self medicate 10-12 over the counter ibuprofen and mix of Tylenol on my worse days just to get through. Would not recommend if you have choices.
Dr. Michael G. Kaldis is a board-certified orthopedic and spinal surgeon who practices in the Houston and Galveston, Texas, offices of Southwest Orthopedic Group, LLP. He specializes in surgery of the spine and treating scoliosis. Dr. Kaldis was awarded the Clinical Excellence Award from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston.
Dr. Kaldis completed the majority of his medical training in Texas. He attended Texas A&M University and the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston for undergraduate and medical school, respectively. Subsequently, he supplemented his expertise during an externship in orthopedic surgery under Martin Allgöwer in Basel, Switzerland.
He returned to Texas for an internship in general surgery and residency in orthopedic surgery at the UT Health Science Center at Houston. He completed his training with a fellowship in surgery of the spine and scoliosis at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver.
