Dr. Riar graduated from Government Medical College in Amritsar, Punjab, India, with her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS). She moved to the United States for her internship in internal medicine at Coney Island Hospital in Brooklyn, New York.

Shawn Aghili, MD, FCCP, is a skilled and practiced Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine Specialist at Pulmonary Medicine Associates. Dr. Aghili joined PMA in 1996 and sees patients at the PMA Roseville, California office.
Growing up in a family of physicians, Dr. Aghili has always had a love for the profession. He immigrated to the United States as a teenager and grew up in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Dr. Aghili’s Biomedical Engineering background certainly helped him in advancing further in the subspecialty of Pulmonary Medicine. His selection of pulmonary medicine as a specialty was influenced by his affection for his pulmonary professor.
He completed his pulmonary training at Loma Linda University Medical Center (LLUMC) in California.
He feels privileged to train with a fantastic group of pulmonary physicians where he learned the skills of his professional passion — invasive pulmonary medicine including laser bronchoscopy for treatment of a variety of tumors in the lungs, as well as placement of different endobronchial stents and limited chest surgery, thoracoscopy, and open-lung biopsies.

We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Ahana Sandhu to our sleep medicine team. Dr. Sandhu is a highly skilled sleep medicine physician with a wealth of experience in diagnosing and treating a wide range of sleep disorders. She is board certified in both Internal Medicine and Sleep Medicine, and is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians.
Dr. Sandhu completed her Bachelor of Sciences in Biological Sciences at the University of California Irvine in 2009, and went on to earn her medical degree from the American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine in 2016. She graduated with honors and was part of the Alpha Omega Phi Honor and Service Society.
Following medical school, Dr. Sandhu completed her Internal Medicine Residency at UCLA-Kern Medical from 2016-2019, where she served as Chief Resident in Internal Medicine from 2018-2019. During her residency, she received the Robert S. Mosser Award for Excellence in Internal Medicine in 2019.
Dr. Sandhu then pursued a fellowship in Sleep Medicine at Cleveland Clinic from 2019-2020, where she served as Chief Sleep Medicine Fellow. During her fellowship, she received comprehensive training in diagnosing and treating sleep disorders, including sleep apnea, insomnia, narcolepsy, and restless leg syndrome.
