Anthony Maffei, MD, FACS, is a minimally invasive and bariatric surgeon at Advanced Surgeons in Valhalla, Carmel, and Poughkeepsie, New York. He is also the Director of Bariatric Surgery at Putnam Hospital Center.
Dr. Maffei completed his general surgery residency at The Stamford Hospital/Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. He was fellowship-trained in minimal access/bariatric surgery at The Institute of Minimally Invasive Surgery in New York.
Dr. Maffei is a board-certified general surgeon and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (ACS). He is an assistant professor of surgery at New York Medical College (NYMC) and has been the director of the laparoscopic simulation lab at NYMC since 2008. He has received numerous teaching awards throughout his career.
In addition to being a Fellow of the ACS, Dr. Maffei is a member of the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgeons and a member of the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons.
Dr. Maffei has been named as a 2018 Top Doctor by Castle Connolly/Westchester Magazine. His highly trained team is dedicated to providing the highest level of patient care every step of the way. They have over 35 years of combined experience and have performed thousands of bariatric and general surgeries. The team was 1 of 3 ranked in the top 5% by HealthGrades between 2005 and 2013.
Dr. Maffei regularly manages some of the most challenging and complex patients, engages all levels of obesity, standards of care for weight-loss operations, ages, comorbid conditions, and reoperations.
Dr. Maffei also specializes in body contouring and Smartlipo®. He has successfully performed these procedures on patients who travel from all over the country to seek his expertise. He has gained the trust of many in the bodybuilding community as some of his patients have achieved “pro card” bodybuilding status following surgery.
Dr. Maffei also offers hormone replacement therapy (HRT) where the goal is to take what we know about the aging process and substantially mitigate its effects. Although time eventually gets the best of us, through the HRT program, he strives to maintain healthy energy levels, lean muscle mass, and sexual vitality by providing in-depth hormone and nutritional evaluations.
Dr. Maffei first became interested in age management medicine as an avenue to improve his own health and well-being. After starting the program, he quickly realized the benefits as he dropped from 33% to 15% body fat while still being able to put on lean muscle mass, as well as lower his cholesterol and diabetes risk profile.

Dr. Maffei is an appointed police surgeon for the City of Peekskill and regularly volunteers his time and surgical skills to help underprivileged patients in need of medical care. Dr. Maffei loves scuba diving, gardening, skiing, archery, and koi pond keeping.
