Christopher “Chris” James, MD, is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon at Orthopedic Specialists. He is proud to serve patients throughout Palm Harbor, Florida.
A Tampa native, Dr. James is a graduate of Jesuit High School. He received his undergraduate degree from Purdue University, where he played for the football team as a wide receiver. He went on to complete medical school at Saint George’s University in Grenada, West Indies, and in select New York City area hospitals.
Dr. James completed orthopedic surgery residency training at the University of Missouri - Columbia, followed by a fellowship in hip and knee replacement in Chicago’s Northshore University Health System. He is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.
Dr. James has had extensive training in all aspects of both operative and nonoperative orthopedics. His primary interest is adult hip and knee reconstructive surgery that entails both primary and revision procedures. At Orthopedic Specialists, Dr. James performs a variety of procedures, including hip and knee replacements, knee arthroscopy, periprosthetic fracture surgery, and knee and joint injections, to name a few.
He has been trained in the most advanced joint replacement surgery, including computer- and robotic-assisted techniques that allow for enhanced recovery and improved function. Dr. James uses minimally invasive approaches for his knee replacements and both muscle-sparing direct anterior as well as a mini posterior hip approach.
In his spare time, Dr. James enjoys trying to impress his friends and family with his culinary skills. As a former Purdue football wide receiver, he enjoys cheering for all Boilermakers sports. He also is a fan of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Tampa Bay Lightning.
Ashley Perenich is a highly skilled Physician Assistant at the Spine Institute of Florida, where she works closely with Dr. Nicholas Perenich and the rest of the surgical team to provide exceptional care to patients. Ashley earned her Master of Medical Science in Physician Assistant Studies from University of South Florida’s Morsani College of Medicine and has since specialized in orthopedics and spine surgery.
As a Physician Assistant, Ashley is responsible for performing physical exams, diagnosing and treating injuries and illnesses, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, and assisting in surgical procedures. She is passionate about helping patients understand their condition and treatment options, and works closely with them to develop personalized treatment plans that meet their unique needs.
Ashley is a member of several professional organizations, including the Florida Academy of Physician Assistants and the American Academy of Physician Assistants. She is committed to staying up-to-date on the latest advancements in her field through continuing education and attending conferences and seminars.
In her free time, Ashley enjoys traveling, yoga, wakesurfing, and spending time with her husband, Dr. Nicholas Perenich, and their family.
Mark Nicholas Perenich, DO, is an accomplished, board-certified orthopedic spine surgeon at the Spine Institute of Florida, formerly Tampa Back Institute, with locations in Crystal River, Dade City, Spring Hill, and Tampa, Florida.
Specializing in minimally invasive spine surgery techniques, Dr. Perenich obtained his medical degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in Pennsylvania. Later, he completed his residency in Orthopedic Surgery at the Largo Medical Center in Florida. He then completed a fellowship in Spine Surgery at the prestigious Texas Back Institute.
Dr. Perenich is passionate about treating patients with spine-related conditions and is dedicated to providing the highest quality of care. He is known for his expertise in minimally invasive techniques, which help to reduce pain, minimize scarring, and shorten recovery times.
A member of several professional organizations, including the AOA Board of Orthopedic Surgery and the American Osteopathic Association, Dr. Perenich has authored several publications and presentations related to spine surgery and is committed to staying at the forefront of advancements in his field.
When not in the operating room, Dr. Perenich enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, and participating in outdoor activities such as wake surfing and boating.
Joseph (Joe) Perry is an Orthopedic Physician's Assistant here at Total Spine and Orthopedics. He has over 25 years of experience in clinical diagnoses and treatment for a wide variety of orthopedic conditions.
Joe is originally from East Texas and graduated from The University of Texas Medical Branch – Galveston. He initially worked in Occupational Medicine near the refineries around Lake Jackson, TX. After that his focus was general Orthopedic medicine in the Houston area at Koshman Orthopedics and KSF Orthopedics and then with Trinity Mother Francis Orthopedics in Tyler, TX. He then gained experience in Orthopedic Trauma at East Texas Medical Center in Tyler, one of only twenty Level I Trauma Centers in Texas. After that he worked in Amarillo where he was the primary provider in a PA run Orthopedic Urgent Care clinic for 12 years before moving to Florida. At that time he began working with an upper extremity specialist.
Focused on non-surgical orthopedic care for patients with back, neck & joint problems. Graduate of the University of South Florida, he has served Melbourne patients since 1985. He also served a 5-year appointment by President George Bush & HHS Secretary Tommy Thompson to the Medicare Program Advisory & Oversight Committee. Fellowship trained Orthopedic surgeon with extensive surgical experience in Spine Surgery, Hand Surgery, Total Joint Replacement, Trauma and Sports Medicine. Completed his Residency in Orthopedic & Hand Surgery at Cook County Hospital, Chicago Illinois. He now devotes his practice to diagnosis and treatment of Orthopedic Injury & Disease with emphasis on Non-Surgical treatment options and case management.
