He stayed at WFU to finish a fellowship in interventional pain medicine at Carolinas Pain Institute, one of the nation’s premier training programs. During his fellowship, he was involved in extensive clinical research and was trained in the most advanced approaches to interventional pain management.
Following his medical training, Dr. Fernandez served as an assistant professor of anesthesiology and pain medicine at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, where he participated in patient care and the training of medical students, residents, and fellows.
Although the teaching practice was fulfilling, the call of home was too great. In 2011, he returned to his hometown of Sarasota, focusing on providing personalized, high-level care to the community he loves.
Dr. Fernandez is board certified in anesthesiology and interventional pain medicine. He maintains active membership in many professional organizations, including the American Society of Anesthesiology, the American Society of Pain and Neuroscience, the American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians, the Florida Society of Anesthesiologists, and the Florida Society of Interventional Pain Physicians.
