After many years of back breaking work in remote Alaska my lower back gave out in 2003 and I had three damaged lower discs. My L5/S1 was basically rubbing bone on bone, and the two discs above bulging. I had constant pain, was havShow moreing difficulty getting around and walking like I was 40 years older than my actual age. After consulting multiple doctors, approximately three years of physical therapy and multiple injections to relieve my pain, I chose to have Dr. Khurana perform his recommended fusion for me in 2006. Dr. Khurana had the most conservative approach to deal with my lower back problem than the other doctors who had evaluated me. He took time to explain everything to me, was detail oriented, thorough, friendly, and confident. I was confident he was a detailed surgeon who knows his business, takes the best approach and cares about his patients! After my 2006 L5/S1 fusion Dr. Khurana thought he might see me back in approximately 5-10 years for the next level to get taken care of, but I was getting around so well it took 15 years. In 2021 I was back to see DR. Khurana for the next upper level to be taken care of. I had no thoughts of seeing anyone else for this next surgery other than Dr. Khurana since I was so confident in him and his abilities. My only concern this time is t I believe the COVID restrictions appeared to cause some hurdles as well as communication delays in getting the surgery scheduled and follow up appointments coordinated. All in all, though, it worked out and I am grateful. Dr. Khurana and his staff are caring, compassionate and friendly, but most of all concerned about the best approach to solving your problem and relieving your pain. I have no reservations in recommending Dr. Khurana and his staff to anyone. I believe Dr. Khurana is who you would be looking for in an orthopedic spine surgeon! Best Regards, Paul Kuriscak
There never seems to be enough time to ask all the questions after spine surgery, even when I write them down. However, Dr. Khurana is patient, kind and answers questions fully. He understands people and their concerns, worries anShow mored anxiety. He shows empathy, and takes his patients' comments seriously. He can quote studies if there are any doubts in patients minds. Ie: I had questions about the materials in the bone graft/spacer he put in between L-4 and L5. He was able to tell me about the material, how long it has been used for this kind of surgery and quote a study from Yale as to the safety of the material. His office assistants and staff are always courteous, and get back to you when they have to get further clarifications on answers to questions. Bianca, his MA, makes you feel secure and she is so helpful post surgery, as there are lots of phases of recovery and everyone is different in their process and length of time it takes to recover, but there are some standard things in common. Bianca is versed in the common and not so common occurrences after surgery, and brings everything to Dr. Khurana's attention. Overall I highly recommend Dr. Khurana and his staff. Not only is Dr. Khurana a gifted, knowledgeable and expert surgeon(my surgery was 4.5 hours long), but a kind person, who said that he would really reflect upon my body and my case prior to the surgery-meaning he would take his time and think about the best way to go about my surgery, but also that he might encounter something unusual during the surgery due to my exposure to a medication in utero that changed the way my body functions. I appreciated that extra care and concern, as I felt validated and respected.

Dr. Khurana's office is well run and efficient. There's an immediate level of confidence you feel when you have your first appointment. Everyone is buttoned down. Dr. Khurana explains things in plain English. His ability to explain things to the lay person is highly developed. I felt trust in his ability and competence in the consultation.
