"I want to be the person I needed when I was at my lowest." That belief guides the way I show up for every client. I've worked in both community mental health and maximum-security corrections, walking with people through some of their most challenging moments. My approach is warm, honest, and down-to-earth—rooted in trust and genuine connection.
I draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Reality Therapy, and Person-Centered approaches, tailoring sessions to fit your unique needs. Therapy with me is relational and real. Whether you're facing anxiety, trauma, or just feeling stuck, I create space for healing—with empathy, humor, and zero judgment.
From our first session, I focus on building a strong therapeutic relationship. My goal is to help you reconnect with your strength and move forward—one honest conversation at a time.
As an experienced Psychotherapist, I'm passionate about helping people to become their best version of themselves by focusing on a new perspective of self awareness and understanding of yourself and others: "If you can't change the problem, change the way you view it ".
I have extensive postdoctoral education/training in psychoanalytic psychotherapy, through the Oklahoma Society for Psychoanalytic Studies and the Greater Kansas City Psychoanalytic Institute. I am currently a candidate in psychoanalysis at the New School for Existential Psychoanalysis in San Francisco. My approach to therapy is thus basically psychodynamic/psychoanalytic. While most other approaches to therapy are focused on symptom relief, this approach is more depth-oriented and focused on promoting greater self-understanding and more lasting change. Therapy of this sort tends to be of longer duration and is more challenging in some ways, but when successful, the results are deeper and more permanent. I enjoy working with adults, adolescents, and older (school-aged) children. Although the bulk of my work is in individual therapy, I am also available for couples therapy. When feasible, I can provide psychological testing & diagnostic assessment.

Hello and welcome. My name is Maria Sierra, and I am a bilingual mental health professional with many years of experience serving diverse communities. I hold a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from Pepperdine University and am currently a doctoral candidate, continuing my dedication to lifelong learning and growth in the field of mental health. My approach to therapy is person-centered, which means I believe that every individual has the capacity for growth, healing, and self-discovery. I strive to create a warm, supportive, and nonjudgmental space where clients feel truly seen and heard. I specialize in working with individuals across the lifespan and have extensive experience supporting clients through a wide range of challenges. I am trained in EMDR, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), domestic violence advocacy, parenting interventions, and psychological testing and assessments.
My motivation to pursue this field stems from a childhood influence. Our next-door neighbor was a social worker, and I remember her as a kind, warm person who always had an ear to listen. At the age of 13, I decided I wanted to enter the same profession. When I work with clients, I strive to provide that same warmth and security, allowing them to share their life experiences openly. I believe the patient-therapist relationship is crucial to effective therapy.
Many individuals struggle with life in general, feeling overwhelmed and challenged in numerous ways. They often feel out of touch with themselves and lack a sense of purpose. Additionally, many are dealing with anxiety, depression, or unresolved trauma.
I believe there is great power in being heard. This can lead to a better understanding of oneself, the ability to change, and the gift of acceptance.
I am a clinical psychologist who works with kids, families and adults. I have spent my entire career working to make psychology understandable and useful to real people in their real lives. I strive to do this both in my day-to-day practice, as well as in the self help books I have written over the years.
My practice is devoted to helping people as they cope with difficulties in their day-to-day lives. I try to avoid psychobabble and to take a down to earth approach to the work I do.
Over the course of my career I have had many wonderful opportunities to grow as a professional. I have written a number of self help books, and designed a day treatment camp program for kids with ADD/ADHD that has been run in at least four cities across the country.
As an Air Force psychologist I learned how to bring psychology to men and women serving our country in stressful and dangerous ways, and how to accomplish my mission with the resources at hand.
