Originally from Germany, Dr. Pechak first began his path toward a career in medicine by enrolling at the University of Padova School of Medicine in Italy in 1987. He later transferred to Ludwig‑Maximilian‑University School of Medicine in Munich, Germany, where he completed his Doctor of Dental Surgery in 1994. After graduation, he practiced dentistry for several years in Munich before being accepted into a prestigious program as one of only three international students in a three-year postdoctoral program in periodontics and implantology at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in Boston, Massachusetts.

Dr. Pechak received his specialty certificate in periodontics and a Master of Science in Periodontics from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine, in 2000, graduating top of his class. Upon graduation, he was invited to join the full-time faculty as a clinical instructor at the dental school, and he was later invited to address the alumni of Tufts School of Dental Medicine in September 2009.

Dr. Herman grew up in West Monroe, Louisiana. She attended West Monroe High School, then earned a Bachelor’s in biochemistry with a minor in chemistry from Louisiana State University. While studying there, she received the Chancellor’s Future Leaders in Research Scholarship, the Centennial Scholarship, and was named to the LSU Alumni Association Top 100 Scholars list. Dr. Herman received her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from LSU School of Dentistry in 2016. She went on to complete her residency in periodontics there in 2019, where she served as the chief resident. 

To maintain her professional credentials and stay up with the latest advances in periodontics, Dr. Herman maintains memberships with the American Dental Association, American Academy of Periodontology, American Association for Dental Research, Louisiana Dental Association, and New Orleans Dental Association.

Dr. Herman has extensive leadership and volunteer experience. As Community Service Chair for the LSUHSC dental class of 2016, she organized community service opportunities for members of her class, including fundraisers, food drives, and Habitat for Humanity service. Dr. Herman has volunteered for both the New Orleans and the Louisiana Missions of Mercy and provided dental services and supplies to adults and children in the mountain communities of Guatemala through LSU Global Healing. Dr. Jeff Takai is a dental implant and gum disease specialist at Ramona Family Dentistry. Dr. Takai grew up in southern California where his father was also a dentist. As a result, he has been involved in dentistry in some capacity his entire life and he developed a strong passion for dentistry at a young age.

Dr. Takai completed his undergraduate schooling at UC Berkeley. He then attended University of the Pacific for dental school and earned his Doctorate of Dental Surgery. While in dental school Dr. Takai was attracted to the surgical side of dentistry and decided he wanted to become more specialized. Upon graduation, he furthered his education and training in periodontics at UC San Francisco where he completed his surgical residency in 2013.
